Your Guide to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in Minneapolis
Rosh Hashanah, which translates as "head of the year", is the Jewish New Year. A time for inner renewal and divine atonement, this holiday falls days before Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism and the official Day of Atonement. Just 10 days apart, Minneapolis has various resources and events available to those observing these holy holidays.
Last Updated: 9/8/23
Each year Rosh Hashanah is observed on different days, with the 2023 Rosh Hashanah celebrations beginning at sundown on September 15th and ending at sundown on September 17th. Traditional practices include High Holy Day services, Tashlich services, and the customary consumption of a new fruit - a symbol of newness. Just ten days later, from sunrise on September 24th to sundown on September 25th, the Jewish community will also be celebrating Yom Kippur. Customs of Yom Kippur include fasting and traditional services such as the Kol Nidrei and Neila services. Resources in Minneapolis include Jewish centers, synagogues and other holy day events.
